May 29

Went to North Westmeath with my good friend Senator Donie Cassidy. We visited Castlepollard, Collinstown, Delvin, Kilucan and Kinnegad before heading back to Carrick On Shannon to film for Prime Time. Mark Little and the team were excellent and I have to extend a big thank you to everyone who came out to support me in my home constituency. The weather gave us a chance to show Leitrim to an Irish audience in the best light possible which I hope will be some benefit in the future.

May 30 and 31

Off to Kingscourt, Baileboro and Mullagh and again I want to extend my sincere thanks to the local organisation for supporting me every step of the way. I then canvassed in Carrick On Shannon. It was an important weekend for Leitrim as we faced Roscommon on Sunday and I wanted to be there to support my local team. It was sweltering and I hope my few bottles of water went some way towards quenching supporters’ thirst on the day! It’s nice to be able to give something which can be used on the day. My large sign went up on the roundabout and you couldn’t miss it. It was then on to Drumshanbo for the launch of the An Tostal Festival. We had an amazing turn out and I couldn’t help but remember my late mother on the day – who wasn’t there to see it for the first time in so many years.

June 1

It was on to Galway West for the Connemara Tour and what a day it was! Rosmuc was alive with the sound of the GAA as thousands gathered for Comórtas Peile na Gaeltachta 2009. It was a fantastic sight and we were joined by Gaeltacht Minister Eamon O’Cuiv. Our canvassers started to stick to the ground as the sheer heat began to melt the tar on the road! Perhaps it was a sign they wanted us to stay...again many thanks to the local organisation in Moycullen, Oughterard, Clifden, Spiddal and Galway who came out for us on the day. My sincere apologies for running late – due to a tyre puncture. You just can’t account for punctures! Met many people at the Volvo Ocean Race which is still sailing on in Galway – could the weather be any better?

In Mayo today on the final countdown...

June 3 and 4

Back to Galway for a stunning day on the Prom, Shop Street and at the Volvo Ocean Race. On the Late Debate tonight on RTE Radio 1.  This is it. We have covered all 11 counties in the largest electoral area in Europe. I have done every radio show I was invited to and participated in every debate on local, national and international television and radio to the very best of my ability.  I haven't shyed away from the tough questions.  I have been to every County to listen to your concerns and will do my upmost to represent the people of the North West in Europe.  I have worn out numerous pairs of shoes on the campaign trail and have kept it going right to the end!  It has been an amazing experience, it has been daunting, it has been exhausting, but above all, it has been worth it to put myself out there in a bid to become your voice in Europe.  They are our local issues and there are European Answers. Please give me your No. 1 vote on June 5 and I will ensure that Ireland stays at the heart of Europe.

God Bless
